What does PG mean?

PG refers to lines with Patriarca Gucci in them (hence the abbreviation PG). These lines have been associated with dwarfism.

Dwarfism is a genetic defect where the limbs are shortened, while the body and head may remain normal. Cats with this condition typically die at a young age.

A DNA test is being developed to detect and eliminate dwarfism. It’s hard to blame one cat for this problem, and multiple factors and cats likely play a role. However, the general advice for breeders is not to mate a cat with PG in its pedigree with another cat that also has PG in their lineage. A responsible breeder will adhere to this advice.

Mentioning that a cat has PG in its lines is relevant information for breeders potentially purchasing a kitten for their cattery, but not necessarily for people seeking a companion kitten: if a cat does not exhibit/has this condition, it cannot die from it.
